Terms of Service
Welcome to Simba ("**Simba**," "**the App**," "**we**," "**us**," or "**our**"), a mobile application developed and published by Fatih Demir, an independent developer based in Turkey ("**Developer**").
These Terms of Service ("**Terms**") form a legally binding agreement between you ("**you**" or "**User**") and the Developer, governing your access to and use of the Simba mobile application, available on the Apple App Store, and any related services (collectively, the "**Service**").
Please also read our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect and use your data and is incorporated into these Terms by reference. By downloading, installing, or using Simba, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
1. About Simba
Simba is a focus and app-blocking application that helps users reduce distractions by blocking selected apps and websites, either on a schedule or during timer-based focus sessions. Simba uses Apple's Screen Time / Family Controls framework to enforce blocking at the operating system level, and displays a custom "Simba Shield" screen, featuring the Simba cat mascot and a personalized reminder, when a user attempts to open a blocked app or website.
Simba is a self-discipline and productivity tool. It is not a certified parental-control product, a medical or therapeutic device, or a guaranteed-unbreakable lock, and it should not be relied upon as the sole means of restricting access to any app, website, or device for any person, including minors.
2. Eligibility and Accounts
2.1. You must be at least 13 years old, or the age of digital consent in your jurisdiction, to create an account and use Simba independently. If you are using Simba in "My Child" / Parent Mode to manage a child's device, you confirm that you are the parent, legal guardian, or otherwise authorized to configure blocking settings on that device.
2.2. Simba supports sign-in via Google, Apple, email, or as an anonymous guest, with the option to link an anonymous account to a permanent one later. You are responsible for:
- Providing accurate information when creating an account;
- Maintaining the confidentiality of your sign-in credentials and any Parent Mode PIN you create;
- All activity that occurs under your account.
2.3. Reinstalling the App always restarts onboarding. If you sign in with an existing account during onboarding, your folders, schedules, routine preferences, session history, and Parent Mode settings are restored from your account's stored data. If you do not sign in with the same account, this data will not be restored.
2.4. If you delete your account (see Section 11), your restoration data will no longer be available, and any active Parent Mode PIN protection will be removed.
3. App Usage Rules
3.1. To use Simba past onboarding, you must grant Screen Time / Family Controls permission. Without it, the App cannot function, and most screens will remain inaccessible.
3.2. You should keep the App's permissions (Screen Time, notifications) enabled for blocking, schedules, and focus sessions to work as expected. Revoking these permissions at the OS level may cause blocking to stop working until the App is reopened and can reconcile the change.
3.3. Folders, schedules, and routine settings you create are yours to configure freely – rename, edit, or delete them, including the "Default" folder created from your onboarding app selection. Nothing in the App will silently recreate a folder you've deleted.
3.4. The App is designed around a single account per user. If you sign in on multiple devices, your data (folders, schedules, session history) syncs through your account, but active local session state, like a running countdown, stays tied to the device it was started on.
4. App Blocking, Schedules, and Focus Sessions
4.1. How blocking works. Simba lets you group apps and websites into folders ("block groups") and restrict access to those folders through:
- Scheduled Blocking – recurring day- and time-based rules enforced natively, even when the App is closed;
- Focus Sessions – timer-based or open-ended sessions started manually (Quick Focus) or from a pre-built routine.
4.2. Focus Sessions. You can start a Quick Focus session (timed or open-ended) or a pre-built routine (e.g., Deep Work, Gym, Pre-Sleep, Reading) from the Focus tab. Free accounts get one meaningful session per day (sessions under 5 minutes don't use up the daily slot); Premium accounts get unlimited sessions.
4.3. Schedules. Schedules block a chosen folder on recurring days and time windows, enforced at the OS level even when the App isn't open. Only one schedule can be active at a time. Schedules are a Premium feature with a one-time free trial that starts the moment you save your first schedule (see Section 6).
4.4. Hard Mode. Hard Mode removes the ability to stop a session with the standard Stop control. The only way to end a Hard Mode session early is the Emergency Unlock flow (Section 4.6). Do not enable Hard Mode unless you're comfortable with this level of friction, including in situations where you might urgently need to exit (e.g., emergencies, unexpected calls, work needs). By enabling it, you accept the consequences of that choice, including any inconvenience caused by not being able to stop a session quickly.
4.5. No guarantee of perfect enforcement. Simba relies on Apple's Screen Time / Family Controls / DeviceActivity APIs, which are provided and controlled by Apple, not by us. We do not guarantee that blocking will be uninterrupted, error-free, or impossible to circumvent, for example by revoking Screen Time permission, deleting and reinstalling the App, restoring the device, or using another device. There are also technical limits we don't control, such as minimum session durations for native auto-unlock, or Apple restricting what Live Activities can do while the App isn't running; we do our best to reconcile these edge cases automatically, but blocking cannot be promised to be instant, perfectly timed, or impossible to work around at the OS level. You are responsible for maintaining the underlying iOS permissions that Simba depends on.
4.6. Emergency Unlock. Emergency Unlock is a deliberately high-friction flow (a cooldown period, a typed confirmation phrase, a final confirmation, and, in Parent Mode, a PIN) intended for genuine situations where a Hard Mode session must end early. It is a safety valve, not a convenience feature, and its friction is intentional.
4.7. Parent Mode. In Parent Mode, a 4-digit PIN is required to stop an active session, disable or edit a schedule, or complete Emergency Unlock. You are solely responsible for keeping this PIN confidential from the person whose device is being managed. We store only a salted hash of the PIN, not the PIN itself, but we cannot guarantee that a determined user of the managed device won't otherwise find a way to bypass, uninstall, restore, or reset the App.
5. Notifications
5.1. Simba may request permission to send local notifications, including but not limited to reminders when a short, non-native-enforced timed session ends, and other focus-related nudges.
5.2. You may disable notifications at any time through iOS Settings. Doing so may reduce the App's ability to promptly notify you when a session ends or a shield should be lifted, particularly for short sessions that rely on notifications rather than native OS-level scheduling.
6. Subscriptions and Premium Features
6.1. Premium features. Certain features require a paid subscription ("**Premium**"), purchased and billed through Apple's App Store and managed via our subscription infrastructure provider, Adapty. Premium features include unlimited focus sessions, Hard Mode, unlimited schedules, and full Insights access.
6.2. Available plans. Simba currently offers three subscription plans: Weekly, Monthly, and Annual (Yearly). Current prices and billing periods are displayed on the in-app paywall and App Store product page at the time of purchase.
6.3. Schedules free trial. A one-time 3-day free trial for the Schedules feature begins automatically the first time you save a schedule, regardless of whether you have a paid subscription. This trial is tied to your account (not just your device), so reinstalling the App or signing in on a new device will not reset an already-started trial. Once it expires, creating, editing, or enabling a schedule requires a Premium subscription.
6.4. Billing and renewal.
- Subscriptions are billed through your Apple ID account and are subject to Apple's App Store Terms of Service.
- Unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period, subscriptions automatically renew for the same duration and at the then-current price.
- Your Apple ID account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period.
- You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time through your device's App Store account settings. Cancelling stops future renewals but does not refund the current billing period.
6.5. Refunds. All purchases are billed and processed by Apple. Refund requests must be directed to Apple through the App Store; we do not process payments or refunds directly and cannot guarantee any specific refund outcome.
6.6. Restoring purchases. If you reinstall the App, sign in on a new device, or your subscription status appears incorrect, use the "Restore Purchases" option available on the paywall and in Settings – Support. Subscription status is ultimately determined by our subscription infrastructure provider in conjunction with Apple's records.
6.7. Price and feature changes. We reserve the right to change subscription pricing, plans, and which features require Premium, at any time. Material price increases affecting an active subscription will, where required by Apple's guidelines or applicable law, be communicated to you in advance and will only apply to future billing periods.
7. Analytics and Insights
7.1. Because iOS does not expose per-app usage time to third-party apps, all analytics shown in the Insights tab (focus time, session counts, streaks, blocked-attempt counts, most-attempted apps/sites, and routine effectiveness) are self-collected by Simba from your own session history and shield activity. This data may not perfectly match figures shown elsewhere (e.g., Apple's own Screen Time reports).
7.2. Session history (folder used, routine, duration, Hard Mode status, and how the session ended) and blocked-attempt counts are stored locally on your device and mirrored, on a best-effort basis, to your account for backup and cross-device/reinstall restoration.
7.3. Insights data continues to be collected even while the Insights tab is locked behind Premium for free users; no data is lost due to the feature being locked, and it becomes visible again once unlocked.
7.4. For full detail on what data we collect, how it is used, and your rights, please see our Privacy Policy.
8. User Responsibilities and Acceptable Use
By using Simba, you agree that you will:
- Use the App only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms;
- Not attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, tamper with, or bypass the App's blocking mechanisms, licensing, or subscription verification, other than through the Emergency Unlock flow we provide;
- Not use Parent Mode to monitor, restrict, or coerce another adult without their knowledge and consent, where such use would be unlawful;
- Not use the App in any way that could disable, overburden, damage, or impair the Service, or interfere with any other party's use of it;
- Accept that features like Hard Mode and Emergency Unlock are intentionally strict by design, and that enabling them is your choice.
9. Intellectual Property
9.1. Simba, its name, logo, the Simba cat mascot, artwork, illustrations, shield designs, and all associated branding, text, and software are the property of the Developer or their licensors, and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.
9.2. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App on devices you own or control, solely for your personal, non-commercial use, subject to these Terms.
9.3. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, lease, reverse-engineer, or create derivative works based on the App or its content, except as permitted by applicable law.
10. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
10.1. THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
10.2. Simba is a self-discipline and focus tool, not a substitute for professional medical, psychological, or parental-supervision advice. We make no representation that it will eliminate distraction, improve productivity, or achieve any particular outcome for any specific user, and we do not guarantee that blocking, scheduling, or shield enforcement is impossible to circumvent through OS-level settings changes, jailbreaking, device restoration, or other means outside our control.
10.3. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE DEVELOPER SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF, OR INABILITY TO USE, THE APP.
10.4. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OR THE APP SHALL NOT EXCEED THE TOTAL AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR SUBSCRIPTION FEES IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.
10.5. Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited or excluded under applicable law, including liability for gross negligence, willful misconduct, or death or personal injury caused by our negligence, where applicable. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations of liability, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you.
11. Account and Data Deletion
11.1. You may delete your account at any time from within the App (Settings – Delete Account) or by contacting us at fatih.appstudio@gmail.com.
11.2. Deleting your account will sign you out, reset your active subscription status locally to free, and remove your ability to restore folders, schedules, routine history, and Parent Mode settings on future reinstalls.
11.3. Deleting your account does not automatically cancel an active App Store subscription. You must separately cancel your subscription through your Apple ID account settings to stop future billing.
11.4. We will delete or anonymize your account data from our systems within 30 days of a verified deletion request, except where retention is required by law or for legitimate business purposes (such as fraud prevention or dispute resolution), as described in our Privacy Policy.
12. Termination
12.1. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service, in whole or in part, if you violate these Terms, misuse the Service, or if required by law.
12.2. You may stop using the App and delete your account at any time. Termination does not entitle you to a refund of any amounts already paid, except as required by Apple's policies or applicable law.
13. Changes to These Terms
13.1. We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes in the App, our practices, or legal requirements. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this document indicates when the Terms were last revised.
13.2. For material changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you in-app or by other means before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the App after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
14. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
14.1. These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Turkey, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles.
14.2. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the App shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Turkey.
14.3. Nothing in this section limits any right you may have under mandatory consumer-protection laws of your country of residence.
15. Miscellaneous
15.1. Third-party services. The App relies on third-party services, including Apple (App Store, Screen Time / Family Controls, DeviceActivity, Live Activities), Google/Firebase (authentication, cloud storage, analytics, and crash reporting), and Adapty (subscription management). Your use of these integrations is also subject to the respective third parties' own terms and privacy policies.
15.2. Severability. If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
15.3. Entire agreement. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and the Developer regarding the App.
15.4. Assignment. We may assign or transfer these Terms, in whole or in part, without restriction. You may not assign your rights or obligations under these Terms without our prior written consent.
