Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Simba ("**Simba**," "**the App**," "**we**," "**us**," or "**our**"), developed by Fatih Demir, an independent developer based in Turkey ("**Developer**"), collects, uses, stores, and protects your information when you use the App.
By using Simba, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App. This Privacy Policy should be read together with our Terms of Service.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Account information
When you sign in, we (through Firebase Authentication) collect information tied to your chosen sign-in method:
- Google / Apple sign-in – your name, email address, and a unique account identifier, as shared with us by Google or Apple.
- Email sign-in – the email address and password you provide (your password is stored and managed by Firebase Authentication; we never see or store it in plain text).
- Anonymous sign-in – a randomly generated device-bound identifier, with no personal information, until you optionally link it to a Google, Apple, or email account later.
1.2 App configuration and usage data
To provide the App's core features and to restore your setup after a reinstall or on a new device, we store the following in your account record (Cloud Firestore):
- Folders / block groups – folder names, the websites you've added, and opaque, Apple-generated selection tokens representing which apps you've chosen to block (we never see the names of the specific apps you block – only an encrypted token Apple's Screen Time framework understands);
- Schedules – the days, time windows, and folder each schedule targets, whether Hard Mode is enabled, and your schedule free-trial start date;
- Focus routine preferences – your last-used duration, folder, and Hard Mode setting per routine;
- Session history – a record of each completed focus session: folder or routine used, duration, Hard Mode status, and how it ended (completed, stopped early, or emergency unlock);
- Blocked-attempt counts – how many times the block shield was shown, per day and per app/website name;
- Onboarding profile – your stated goal for using Simba, age range, estimated daily phone usage, and chosen block-screen tone;
- Parent Mode – whether Parent Mode is enabled, and a salted, one-way hash of your Parent Mode PIN (never the PIN itself);
- Premium / subscription status – your current plan status and the schedule free-trial timestamp, mirrored from Adapty for backup and cross-device consistency;
- Emergency Unlock records – a log entry each time the Emergency Unlock flow is completed.
1.3 Support messages
If you contact us through the in-app "Contact Us" form in Settings, we collect the content of your message together with your account identifier so we can respond to you.
1.4 Analytics, performance, and crash data
We use the following Firebase services to understand app stability and usage, and to fix bugs:
- Firebase Analytics – anonymized, aggregated usage events (e.g., which screens are viewed, which features are used) and device/OS information;
- Firebase Crashlytics – crash reports and diagnostic logs if the App crashes or encounters an error;
- Firebase Performance Monitoring – technical performance data such as app start time and network request latency.
None of these services are used to identify you personally beyond what is necessary to fix bugs and understand aggregate usage patterns.
1.5 Subscription data
Subscription purchases are handled by Apple's App Store and processed through Adapty, our subscription management provider. Adapty receives your anonymized subscription/purchase events and a stable user identifier (linked to your Firebase account so your subscription follows you across devices and reinstalls). We do not receive or store your payment card details; these are handled entirely by Apple.
1.6 Information we do not collect
Apple's iOS platform does not allow third-party apps, including Simba, to see which specific apps you use or for how long, or to see the content of blocked websites you attempt to visit. All Insights analytics shown in the App are calculated from Simba's own recorded activity (session history and shield-display counts), not from any Apple usage-tracking API.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information described above to:
- Provide and operate the App's core features: app/website blocking, folders, schedules, focus sessions, and the Simba Shield;
- Restore your folders, schedules, routine preferences, and session history when you sign in with an existing account after a reinstall or on a new device;
- Manage your subscription status and enforce free-tier limits (daily session count, schedule trial, Insights lock);
- Show you your own focus analytics in the Insights tab;
- Respond to support requests submitted through the Contact Us form;
- Monitor app stability, diagnose crashes, and improve performance;
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties, and we do not use your data for third-party advertising.
3. Where Your Data Is Stored
3.1. Your account data is stored in Google Cloud Firestore, namespaced to a production environment separate from development/testing data.
3.2. Data may be processed and stored on servers located outside your country of residence, including in the United States or other countries where our service providers (Google Firebase, Adapty) operate infrastructure. By using the App, you consent to this transfer and processing, which is protected by the safeguards our providers maintain under their own data processing agreements and applicable data protection frameworks.
4. Third-Party Services
Simba relies on the following third-party services, each of which processes certain data on our behalf under its own privacy policy:
| Service | Purpose | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Apple (App Store, Screen Time / Family Controls, DeviceActivity) | App distribution, native app/website blocking enforcement, subscription billing | Purchase records, device permissions |
| Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Analytics, Crashlytics, Performance Monitoring) | Sign-in, data storage/sync, crash and performance diagnostics | Account identifiers, app configuration data, usage/crash events |
| Adapty | Subscription and paywall management | Purchase/subscription events, anonymized user identifier |
We encourage you to review each provider's own privacy policy for full detail on their data handling practices.
5. Data Retention
5.1. We retain your account data for as long as your account remains active, so that your Simba setup can be restored after a reinstall or on a new device.
5.2. If you delete your account (Settings – Delete Account, or by emailing fatih.appstudio@gmail.com), we will delete or anonymize your account data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain certain records for longer to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or prevent fraud or abuse.
5.3. Deleting your account does not delete records already held by Apple (e.g., App Store purchase history) or by Adapty in accordance with their own retention policies.
6. Your Rights
Depending on your country of residence, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you;
- Correct inaccurate data;
- Request deletion of your data (see Section 5);
- Object to or restrict certain processing;
- Request a copy of your data in a portable format;
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at fatih.appstudio@gmail.com. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe and in accordance with applicable law, which for the Developer is the law of Turkey (see Section 11).
7. Children's Privacy
7.1. Simba is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect account information directly from children under that age.
7.2. Simba's "My Child" / Parent Mode is designed for a parent or legal guardian to configure blocking settings on a device used by their child. In this mode, the account holder and the person answering onboarding questions is the parent or guardian, not the child; the child does not create their own Simba account.
7.3. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information directly (for example, by creating their own account outside of Parent Mode), please contact us at fatih.appstudio@gmail.com so we can delete it.
8. Data Security
We use industry-standard safeguards provided by our infrastructure partners (Google Firebase, Apple, Adapty) to protect your data, including encryption in transit and access-controlled cloud storage. Your Parent Mode PIN is never stored in plain text, only as a salted hash. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Notifications
Simba may request permission to send local (on-device) notifications, for example, to alert you when a short focus session has ended. These notifications are generated on your device and do not involve sending personal data to a push-notification server. You can disable notifications at any time in iOS Settings.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App or applicable law. The "Last Updated" date above reflects the most recent revision. For material changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you in-app before they take effect. Continued use of the App after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
11. Governing Law
This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of the Republic of Turkey, consistent with the governing law provision in our Terms of Service.
